About Us
Patti S. Hozempa, along with her husband Adam of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania own and operate the design studio for P.A. Designs. Both have been sewing for many years – Patti since she was taught by her Mother at the age of 12 when she won a new sewing machine, and Adam since he was taught tailoring by his Father. Both are former teachers who also spent several years in the retail clothing business, taking over from Adam’s Father and Grandfather.
In 2000, they made the decision to leave their turn-key storefront and concentrate on Patti’s design skills and her 20 years of teaching quilting to students of all ages. Her ability to adapt her designs to individually meet the needs of her growing customer base and her unique skill of creating one of a kind memory quilts had grown into a business that demanded a full time effort. She currently holds 12 federal US Copyrights for her quilting designs with several more pending.
In 2002, the couple received notification that their unique design of the Tuckaway Pillowquilt® had received full license registration as a United States Registered Trademark. To meet their customer’s need of a high quality home décor product that was not only useful but practical, Patti designed a new way to create a combination pillow/quilt that folds into itself. The design is also a fully registered copyrighted technique.
In their P.A. Designs studio, emphasis is placed on two key ingredients – individual custom designs and environmentally friendly materials. The history of quilting spans many generations with each succeeding generation adding its own unique mark on this art form. Patti’s love of traditional American designs follows this path as she uses her skill to build on the past and move it forward with innovative ways of improving the process.
"Think Green" is also very important to P.A. Designs quilting. 100% cotton fabrics and batting are all renewable resources. They are used exclusively in all of our bed quilts and custom memory and memorial quilts. In 2006, their efforts were recognized by the Small Business Development Council as an outstanding business in Pennsylvania. They were invited to Harrisburg, Pa. where they showcased their work to many state representatives and Lt. Governor Catherine Baker Knoll.
If you are ever in the area, Patti and Adam invite you to give them a call and come see their studio in operation. They will be happy to offer you a cup of tea, tell you all about their current projects, and do a sketch of your future heirloom.
